LINDSAY WAGNER – BIOGRAPHY

Most people first became familiar with the actress Lindsay Wagner through her Emmy-winning role as THE BIONIC WOMAN, the hugely popular TV series that ran in the 70’s. The stunning 5’ 11” Lindsay first got a taste of the showbiz world by working as fashion model in Los Angeles. She gained some television experience by appearing as a hostess in Playboy After Dark. However, it wasn't until she contacted a friend at Universal Studios that she got lucky in the acting world. In 1971, she was signed to a 162-per-week contract at Universal Pictures, under whose auspices she played supporting roles in such TV series as The Bold Ones and Owen Marshall, M.D. and co-starred in the theatrical features Two People (1972) and The Paper Chase (1973). Though she received good reviews for her work in the Paper Chase, Lindsay was summarily dropped by her studio in 1975. At the same time, Universal executives were looking for a tall, athletic actress to play a "bionic woman" opposite Lee Majors in a special two-part installment of the weekly TV series, The Six Million Dollar Man.

Lindsay won the part and her contract was extended an extra few days to permit her to play the role of bionic woman Jaime Sommers. Public response to the bionic woman’s character was so overwhelming that Jaime was brought back to life with her own spin-off TV series, The Bionic Woman, in 1976. Lindsay, who was still bitter over her firing, demanded a then-staggering sum of $17,500 per program, and a percentage of the merchandising profits. The role went on to earn Lindsay an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1977. She also was nominated twice for the Golden Globe as Best TV Actress, Drama for The Bionic Woman in 1977 and '78.

When the poplar Bionic Woman TV series came to an end in 1978, Lindsay kept her star shining brightly for over 20 years by starring in many popular made-for-TV movies and cinema-release movies, such as Ricochet co-starring Denzel Washington. She also appeared in several TV-movie sequels to The Bionic Woman, including 1993's Bionic Ever After. Throughout her succesful acting career, Lindsay has starred alongside many well-known actors including Jennifer Lopez, Denzel Washington, Martin Landau, Melissa gilbert, Peter Fonda and Lee Majors.

In addition to maintaining her successful acting career, Lindsay Wagner has also had success a TV/film producer and author, with her released publications including: High Road to Health: A Vegetarian Cookbook
